Auditions for Bulldog Beat, Color Guard, Percussion, and for Bulldog Marching Band Scholarships

The Bulldog Beat and Department of Music host audition day(s) each spring, typically in February and March. Prospective members for the Bulldog Beat, which is our top scholarship group at Fresno State, perform a live audition based on a prepared packet of music found on our web site. The Department of Music auditions are for music majors, or minors, who seek admission into their respective instrument's studio and assesses students for merit-based scholarships. Students auditioning for Bulldog Beat can be from any major on campus and do not have to be a music major to receive a Beat scholarship.

Auditions for Bulldog Marching Band Scholarships (Fresno State Students Only)

There are two steps to applying for a Bulldog Marching Band Scholarship.

1. Each candidate must complete the online scholarship form with the Fresno State Scholarship Office (link found here).

2. Candidates must also submit a video of themselves, demonstrating talent and ability for initial screening and consideration of scholarship dollars (google form found here).

Only a successfully completed application to the Scholarship Office along with a submitted video audition can connect potential scholarship money to students.

Percussion and Color Guard Auditions are held each spring and serve as placement in the Bulldog Marching Band percussion section and color guard. The auditions allow the staff to evaluate the incoming talent for placement and gives the staff an opportunity to give feedback, while setting the group up for the Fall. Auditions also serve to connect talented and skilled performers to significant scholarship money, which can reach as high as $2000 for a top performer.
