Shawn Glyde
Percussion Director, Arranger

Shawn Glyde is the current (2000 - present) Marching Percussion Director and Arranger for the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band. His original shows and arrangements for marching band and indoor marching percussion have won numerous honors including 2010 and 2011 WBA AA Champions (percussion Champions 2010, 2012, 2013) and 2013 WBA AAA Grand Champions. He writes for several band and percussion programs yearly and has an extensive catalog of indoor marching percussion and marching band shows to his credit. There are an estimated 150 competitive programs a year performing his arrangements and compositions. Joseph Avery
Percussion Instructor

Joseph Avery is a band director, percussion educator, composer/designer, and drill writer out of the Central Valley California area, specializing in battery technique and percussion performance. Receiving his degree in Music Education from California State University, Fresno, he is a proud alum of the Bulldog Marching Band. Joseph is currently the Associate Director of Bands for Clovis High School (Clovis, CA). He is also the Director of Percussion for the Clovis High School Area, which includes Clark Intermediate School (its feeder program), and its seven feeding elementary schools.

 

 Joseph has worked with, choreographed, written, designed, and taught for Clovis Unified School District, Madera Unified School District, and Fresno Unified School District, as well as being brought on as a consultant for a multitude of high schools and middle schools around the Central Valley. He has also served on the steering committee for SJVCGPR, the largest indoor circuit of Central California.

 

 Joseph’s performance in the percussion community has taken place both outdoors and indoors with Carolina Crown, Sacramento Freelancers Indoor, and the Concord Blue Devils.

Natalia Tomasello
Graduate Student

Natalia Tomasello is a versatile musician who has been playing and studying saxophone for over half of her life. Throughout her schooling, Natalia has participated in several ensembles including Fresno State’s premiere wind ensemble, the Fresno State Wind Orchestra. Natalia also became a member of Fresno State’s top jazz ensemble, The Fresno State Jazz Orchestra, performing on both tenor saxophone and alto saxophone. Through her jazz practice, Natalia focuses on woodwind doubling including performing on the flute, piccolo and clarinet. She also spent three years in the Fresno State Scholarship Band, the Bulldog Beat.

 

Natalia has been a member of marching band for 10 years. Through this practice, Natalia has become a leader in both her high school marching band and her college marching band. She has had the honor of serving as the Drum Major for two years each in both her high school and college careers.

 

Natalia Tomasello also enjoys performing in the Fresno State Saxophone Quartet. She performs as a singer for the Resisting a Rest a cappella group. Outside of school, Natalia teaches for the Clovis East Marching Band as a Visual and Music coach. She also spends her time giving saxophone lessons to college, high school and middle school students. During the summer months, Natalia works for Donner Mine Music Camp in Northern California as a counselor. She has been a part of this music camp for over twelve years. 

Oscar Lopez
Graduate Student

Oscar J. Lopez was born in Los Angeles, California in 1992. The first in his family to attend a four-year university and a high honor graduate of John C. Fremont High School in South Central Los Angeles, Class of 2010, he recently graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Music Education from California State University, Fresno in the Spring of 2014. He is currently in the Master’s Program at CSU Fresno pursuing a Master’s degree in Instrumental Performance with both an emphasis on Trombone and Euphonium under the tutelage of Joel Elias. He has been playing the trombone and euphonium for nearly 10 years.

 

During his time at Fresno State, he has been a member of the Wind Orchestra, Marching Band and the Bulldog Beat since 2010. He also performed with the Jazz Orchestra under Dr. Durst from 2010 through 2013. He has had the privilege to have played at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Wind Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Gary P. Gilroy in the 2013 Los Angeles International Music Festival and has also been a recording artist with GPG Publications since 2012. He is a brother of the National Honorary Band Fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi and is the immediate past President of the Iota Alpha Chapter at Fresno State. He hopes to become a band director one day and share his passion for music with his students.
